The Mountaintop

Of the three categories I’ve divided my site into, The Mountaintop (found under ‘The Virtual Map’ dropdown to your right) is where I explore what’s most wild: the philosophy of life, reality, uncertainty, the unknown…

Here the air is thin and other people are far away. Time doesn’t mean so much anymore, and without the weight of those wasted minutes pressing down on your shoulders it’s possible to leave your skin behind, move beyond the small space you inhabit, reach out and taste a deeper world that’s waiting to be known.

The Mountaintop is a sacred place. It was on a mountaintop that Moses saw the burning bush and Muhammed wrote the Qur’an. Here the oracles of Delphi advised Greek kings to send their soldiers to battle and death. Here is where people go, and have always gone, to gaze into the unknown, to gather the courage to make decisions whose consequences they can’t possibly know.

Here, at high altitude and strangely alone, is where I go as well. To fight the psyche. To break limits. To discover what it is to be a human being and come out the other side still able to laugh.

Welcome to my island in the sky.
