THE TRAVEL LOG

As my site implies, I like to wander. The Travel Log (found under ‘The Virtual Map‘ dropdown to your right) is my account of life on the road — a detailed account of days spent in alien places.

“It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” Bilbo has always been the one to say it best.

People gain a certain clarity of perspective when they leave home behind. The familiar conditioning of your everyday life fades away. Suddenly what’s outside your window is no longer your backyard, but someplace entirely alien, where the people and their words and customs are strange all over again. And in that place you discover something that you had forgotten you were looking for — the curiosity that possessed you when you were a kid.

As a stranger in a strange land, the most important thing you can do is ask questions. You don’t know anything. And because of this you can move, think, and act without limits. Because you aren’t aware of what you “can” and “can’t” do you’re totally free. Free to make mistakes, true, but free to grow too, and learn in ways you never could have imagined.

For those interested, The Travel Log is for the places I’ve gone to and returned from.
