Prelude to June (and a brief apology)

(This post is meant to be read before Early July and the Zombie Hiker)

Hello all, sorry I’ve been gone so long but it’s been a rough couple of weeks. It would be a simple thing to file down the mishaps of the past month into a short, concise statement that would explain everything but that would be a disservice to those of you who have been following along in the story. The last thing I intend is to come off like that guy who mysteriously disappears from work only to stride back into the office a week later waving around a doctor’s note as if it irrefutably justifies his absence – he could have slipped away for a few days on a sunny Haitian beach for all you know.
I don’t have a doctor’s note, but I have most definitely been sick. And although I wish I had been on a lawn chair enjoying the salt-breeze off the Caribbean Ocean with a Corona in hand, I most definitely was not.
I was still on the trail. Not feeling well. Not getting better. Struggling, in a soul-to-the-grindstone type of way, just to make each new mile.
But I told you I wouldn’t short you here with a blanket summary. Instead I’ll show you how June really was, the whole shebang in full.

Thinking about you Nathan! I love reading your blog. Glad you have healed (are healing) and are persevering. We were just in Maine (the more civilized part) and it is a beautiful, but harsh place. Godspeed!
